About Aquaneering Inc.

Aquaneering has grown from a backyard, part-time aquaculture supply business to the internationally recognized leader in manufacture and engineering of fluidized bed biofiltration systems for aquaculture. Mark Francis, president and owner of Aquaneering Inc., received his B.S. in agricultural engineering with an emphasis in aquaculture from the University of Maine in 1978. He then moved to California where he worked as a manager for a fish farm. Here, Mark began designing and building fish farm equipment for the farm, everything from paddlewheel aerators to fish feeders. In 1988 Mark began working with Dr. Dallas Weaver, and started manufacturing his fluidized

bed biofilters for recirculating systems. This revolutionary new filter system was able to maintain superior water quality with undetectable levels of ammonia, which was long-awaited technology for the aquaculture industry.

While working as chief engineer for a manufacturing plant in San Diego, Mark founded his own fledgling fish farm equipment supply business out of his home garage, and appropriately named it Aquaneering. The company focus shifted with the industry, and the emphasis changed from large farm equipment to recirculating systems. In 1997, Aquaneering moved to a with metal fabrication shop, glass shop,

plastic shop, and an operating demonstration hatchery on site. Aquaneering is now an internationally recognized company with a list of successful installations in six different countries including Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Saudi Arabia, and the United States. The past ten years have allowed fluidized bed biofilter systems ample time to prove their claims as superior biological

filtration for applications requiring the highest water quality. These applications include shrimp maturation, zebra fish genetics research, and fish breeding.
